BOOK 2

Chapter 2

Turning Coal to Gold

---

Book2ch2 by BonesXShatter

"Friends, I think we should continue this conversation without prying eyes." Cryptide spoke with a quick glance around the clearing. "It seems one of yours, Cobalt, has been rounding up the apprentices. Our clans are seeing us stress over the matter that has presented us. They too are lashing out. We should end the gathering here as to not cause any more havoc. Than, we can discuss Marrow's offer."
By no means was the Norge against what the she-cat had to offer them. He saw the potential power in Chi-blocking, and was only acting the way he was because he was worried for Dipper. But once finding out he was okay, his mind was no longer lead by emotion.
Looking to the Chief of Waterclan Amethyst nodded in agreement. It would be best if they did this where they could discuss freely and not be disturbed. "What do you have in mind Cryptide?"
"Send the clans back to camp, let us leaders stay in wake."
Amethyst appeared to want to protest, but after being given an eye from his Guru, he simply nodded in respect. Turning on his heels, he used his tail to steer his mate off all the while calling out to those of Airclan.
“Dipper are you able to walk?” Waterclan’s Chief brooded as he turned his attention to that of the speckled tom, concern knitting his brows together. Something had him believing in Marrow’s words, but he needed to double check that she was not lying. “If so I need you to take back our clan to camp.”
“Yeah,” Dipper responded after a labored pause. Catching his breath as quickly as he could as he stumbled on shaky legs; Dipper's own brows furrowed as he looked up to the Norge with his own form of concern. “Sir, I am not leaving you here with that….that...That!”
He insisted, and mentally praised himself for the broken words, but he was quickly put in his place with the stern look of royal eyes. Hissing under his breath Dipper gave a nod and a mutter.
“Shiver- make sure he does not come back afterwards.”
“Aye aye Captain!” His healer yelled back with her usual snark, pale eyes looking to the dark queen that stood unmoving. The other leaders had done similar, turning to their second in command to shuffle the clans back home. Nothing else was said until the clearing was empty stray eight felines nestled in the clearing.
"Cobalt I'd like to ask in advance for my apprentices to be returned to me by morning." Smoke stood up, returning to Lazuli's side. The white she-cat held wide eyes at the form of Marrow, but her shoulders relaxed some after the gray tom brushed up against her flank. "I saw your warrior gather them up, although in good intentions it can cause problems."
"Yeh, I'll get them back to ya. If Pippin' took any other clans I'll get 'em back to ya all." The Alpha spoke with an amused laugh in his words. He wasn't even surprised, though he would have a talk with the sleek black bender after what needed to be dealt with was done.
"May I talk now?" Eyes flashed over to Marrow, her small form becoming apparent as her guards stood inches behind her. Their armour shined with the moon's light, as did the pile just behind them, "I understand your dismay in my offer...but I promise you no ill intentions. I only want what is best for us all."
"And what would that be?" Smoke once more voiced. Dark eyes narrowed at the sight of the plump she-cat, he could tell his water and air counterparts were all for the proposal. The older leader's stood off to the side, side-by-side, whispering to each other. Meanwhile the Lord himself was indifferent. He didn't know what to think.
    "Peace."
She had notably picked the right word for her speech. That is what he had wanted at first too with his war. That is what all of them wanted. Shuffling awkwardly, the two indifferent leader's eyed each other before turning to Cryptide and Sirocco. Lazuli looked offendedly at her mate, then to Marrow; she didn't trust the she-cat at all. Something was just off, everything she said sounded rehearsed and perfected. Which is might as well have been, but she also never did make herself all that much of a threat either.
For a queen to walk in relatively vulnerable, and pregnant no less, it showed she truly wanted what she preached. That was really the only thing she had going for winning the trust of the four clan leaders and Avatar.
"You will teach our non-benders this skill?" Smoke questioned, finding his voice as nobody else seemed to walk to talk. "And trade us this...armour?"
    "I will."
"Leaders please," Sirocco coughed. Taking a shaky step forward so he was between them and Marrow. A crooked grin on his maw, "I see no reason on why we cannot accept this offer?"
"I too agree with Siro," Boomed that of Waterclan's chief. "Although I also see your hesitance. No offense to you Lady Marrow, but you do come off as strange."
"None taken, and for that I apologize. I understand that this time is sacred to your clans...I was unaware with how this would go and so I though it would be better then going to each individually."
"Noted," Cryptide bobbed his head and turned to his friends. "We are clearly getting no where with this. We may speculate all we want, and much of our kin will disagree with whatever the choice we make is. But shall we put it to a vote?"
"I am for Marrow, I have already offered my camp and my Medical Master." Sirocco  nodded, wide eyes turning to those in turn of the Avatar cycle.
"You're group is welcomed to take to our lake for the time being, however I warn with the cold on the next cycle it will be frosted over quickly." The Chief prompted, catching the smile in which Marrow bore with narrowed eyes. "For when the lake does freeze over, a portion of our forests bordering with Airclan should fill for your injured and nursing."
"Thank you, truly." With a dip of her head, she casted her gaze to the unspoken three. Lazuli looked fearful at the older leaders- how dare, how could they even?
"I cannot offer any lands of Fireclan," Smoke stood up, catching the Avatar off guard. "We have little to ourselves as is. But I welcome you to teach our non-benders...and trade with us this armour. And in return, you may cross through our lands without fear of conflict."
With three out of four spoken, Cobalt felt ganged up on. He did not trust Marrow- and would probably never. The show of how she single-handily took down Dipper was astonishing and questioning. But if even the Fire Lord put some trust in the she-cat...he was clearly outnumbered. "I suppose...We grow herbs, if your wounded and queens need 'em, we can share. In return for the Chi-blockin' and armour. But nothing else."
Words passed the seated cats, and Marrow gave a flick to her guards to drop the gifts they had brought. After so, the three left, and so did the leader's of the four clans. Was this the correct decision? Had they just handed over their peace to the claws of a stranger? Or was this something good for the clans...Something that would benefit them?
Only time would tell, and so the leader's returned to their camp to give their announcement to their clans.

Here's the catch; only two cats per clan can master the skill because of the power it entails.
